Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine which aims to promote general health by reinforcing the body’s own natural healing capacity.
Founded in the 1790s by a German physician, Dr Samuel Hahnemann, Homeopathy is based on the Hippocratic principle that like treats like. For example, as symptoms such as watery eyes and a runny nose are similar to those experienced when peeling an onion, according to the principles of homeopathy a very small quantity of onion (Allium cepa) can be used to treat hay fever.
Homeopathy is an ‘energetic’ or ‘dynamic’ medicine, with the majority of remedies derived from organic material – although remedies such ‘x ray’ or ‘plastic’ have been ‘proved’ and added to the remedy banks to accommodate symptom pictures from our ever evolving toxic lifestyles. Homeopathic remedies are formed by repeatedly diluting a very small amount of extract and then succussing or shaking the solution with impact which is is believed creates an energetic imprint in the water.
A homeopathic consultation comprises a series of questions relating both to the patient’s specific complaint as well as to their general emotional and psychological wellbeing. The homeopath will then prescribe the remedy that best mirrors the patient’s symptoms.
Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic healing practice that can be taken alongside conventional medicine and can be taken by even the most vulnerable patients such as babies, children, pregnant mothers, the elderly and those with a compromised immune system.
